10/27/25-Case Study

Case Study
Part 1 – Scene Analysis (Mise-en-scène)
The scene where Eleven hides at the diner in Stranger Things Season 1 Episode 1 creates a
tense yet emotional mood. The diner's dark corners and low lighting create a tense and
uneasy atmosphere that mirrors her anxiety and confusion following her escape from the
lab. The show is grounded in the 1980s because to the nostalgic atmosphere created by the
retro setting, which includes neon signs, vintage furniture, and warm colors. The audience is
able to empathize with Eleven because of her messy look and medical gown, which
physically convey her fragility and loneliness, and the cafe owner's composed manner,
which contrasts with her terror. This sequence creates tension and makes the audience feel
protective of Eleven through careful application of lighting, costumes, and set design. By
combining mystery with human emotion, the mise-en-scène successfully establishes the
tone for the remainder of the series.

Part 2 – Consumer Branding Advertisement
Imagine your friends sharing stories over a late-night supper while an ice-cold Coca-Cola
bottle sparkles under gentle diner lighting and the sound of fizzing bubbles fills the air.
Coca-Cola's famous red label and well-known flavor perfectly convey a feeling of nostalgia
and connection. This commercial combines vintage design with classic emotion to create
the same warm atmosphere as Stranger Things. The viewer feels as like they are a part of
that moment simple, happy, and authentic by sipping Coke. The message is clear Coca-Cola
does more than just satisfy your thirst it connects people and creates lasting impressions
from ordinary situations.
